All About Me
Music, Art, Philosophy, Science, Religion, Current Events, Politics, Pre-Romanticism Literature, Education, Technology, SciFi Movies, Fantasy Novels, and much more are my interests. You will find writings on most (and hopefully all-at some point) of the topics. Some of my pages are unedited ramblings that my mind has captured from floating around in this ethereal space. Most pages are researched (some quite heavily) and I try to provide accurate and interesting material that both the expert and lay-person can enjoy.I am a music-loving philosophy enthusiast who likes to stargaze for long nights while contemplating our existence and trying to determine which candidate I should vote for next. At least, that's what my wife tells me, and it’s a pretty good description. I also love to meddle with photography and pretend that I’m at least competent at taking pictures. I try to hit the hiking trail at least once a week and on good days I remember my camera.
I spent over three years in shoe retail. While I did enjoy the job, recent unethical management practices has forced me to find another occupation. I decided to look for something a bit different, and found it. I now work with a non-profit company that helps and supports people with intellectual disabilities. This kind of work has proved to be challenging on many occasions and quite rewarding.
About the Broiled Stew
I have always had a well-defined set of interests. At times, these interests have consumed me so much that I would be convinced it was my life’s calling. While some interests have remained with me throughout my short life, others have come and gone, sprouting up like fresh spring flowers and wilting with the harsh summer heat. With this site I explore some of my more stable interests and present what I study and learn in a way that is hopefully fresh, detailed, and informative. This site is not a blog, nor is it a news aggregate. It is a site that explores in depth those things that most interest me. Blogs are informal, opinionated, personal, and short. This site is not. News sites and company sites are flashy, messy, overloaded, ad-based, and cluttered. This site is not.
Keep it simple. Keep it detailed. This site will explore topics in depth and will present the information in a way that is easy to read and understand. I love doing research. I love writing. Both of those is combined here. The greatest compliment anyone can give me is to call me a scholar. When I write about the latest NASA mission, I not only write about what happened (as you could easily read from any news source), but I write about the how and why, the people involved, the instruments involved, the spacecraft and how it works, what it all means, etc. The process is slow. It is my hobby and each page I write will take time. Hopefully, you will find each page to be well designed, easy to read and well informed.
About Broiled Astroscovery
Space, the final hobby. This is one interest in my life that has not only remained, but has grown a considerable amount. I love to read and I especially love to read about those ideas that are cutting-edge, unusual, and turn the world upside-down (literally). I’ll explore the NASA missions, the latest advances and innovations in technology, theories and laws, and just about anything else that interests me.
My objective is not quantity but quality. Do not expect to see a bunch of pages popping up each week with half-wit ideas and minimal information. If I’ve written about it, you’ll know all about it. You can expect pages to be updated occasionally as new information surfaces (this is especially true of recent discoveries and missions where new data is expected). Since the remaking of this site is still new and fresh, the material will seem eclectic and varied. As I write more and more material, then patterns may become apparent and influence the design.
As with any other part of this site, I welcome any comments, suggestions, critiques, etc. This is always a continuing work-in-progress.
About Broiled Hike
Next to looking at the night sky, my favorite pasttime is hiking. My objective here is to simply provide you with a kind of hiking journal for each of the trails I hit. The hiking journal may look like a blog but each entry is designed to focus on one subject or one aspect of the hike. Each "trail journal" may include the preparation for the trail, plants and animals found on the trail, the history behind the trail, the geography, my overall impression and anything else that interest me. Each page will be written like a journal. That is, technical jargon will not be the dominating feature, but rather a relaxed (or stressful-depending on the hike) entry will include my thoughts and my opinions. Hopefully each page will provide you with some useful information as well as be entertaining.
Future Plans for the Broiled Stew
Recently I have added Broiled Hike to my site. In the works and in early publishing is Broiled Philosophy. Even further in the future, still, is Broiled Music. Currently each of these sites are light on the information and could use some better design, but this is a site in constant refinement and unending experimentation. Stay tuned and check back often and what you find may surprise you.Evolution of the Broiled Stew
The
Version 2.0 was a simple upgrade, but was a big change from the simple personal blog I had before. With the upgrade, I focused on a few certain topics. I would read other blogs and news items and repost my thoughts along with those items and occasionally would post an original piece of work. Then came 3.0.
Version 3.0 was my first attempt at moving away from Blogger and making some big flashy changes. I migrated to this address and really separated each topic into their own blog. I also added a section for photos and turned the simple blog into a stylized full site with multiple blogs. Unfortunately, the hobby required more time than what I was able to give. I had also noticed that my writing was taking a different direction. Instead of writing short posts on what I read in the news or on other blogs, I wanted to write much, much more. That leads us to version 4.0.
The Broiled Stew 4.0 is no longer what I consider a blog. My interest is not to write a lot of material, but to write high-quality, well-informed material. Unlike a regular blog, I do not have to worry about the amount of space between posts or frequency. Now, I can write at my own pace and research at my own pace and as much as I want. With a blog I would worry about the amount of time that would pass between posts and I would find myself writing something just to get a date on there. Nobody likes a dead blog and I just couldn’t keep it alive each week. So, I killed it, and have rebirthed it into what we have now.
I don’t know how long my site will remain in this format. I kept my original blog for about 6 months before version 2.0. Then it was about a year and a half before 3.0. Six more months went by before wiping the whole thing and starting over with version 4.0.
